Step1
Pressure cook tuvar dal adding water, turmeric powder and a pinch of hing. After it is cooked mash them and keep it aside.

Heat oil in pan and sauté shallots, green chillies, curry leaves till shallots turn transparent. Add the tomatoes, salt and stir well.

Add the tamarind paste, turmeric powder, chopped coriander leaves and stir well. Then add jaggery. After the onion are cooked add the mashed dal.
Step4
Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, after it splutters add cumin seeds, hing, sambar powder, coriander powder and red chilli powder.Mix well in medium flame and add everything to sambar. Mix well and serve it hot.
