Soak the rice in water for 1 hour.
Add water in a vessel. Mix in the rice and dal together with turmeric and bring to a boil.
When the rice is cooked, finish the pongal with a tempering of cumin, pepper corn, green chillies, ginger and curry leaves.
Drizzle with ghee and serve hot.
