Chammanthi Podi is a traditional condiment & can be easily made as a substitute to Pickle and Chutney. The best part is that it serves as the best side dish for Upma, Idli and Curd rice.

Ingredients

  • Fresh Grated Coconut from a normal sized Coconut.
  • Coriander seeds – 3 tsp.
  • Urad dal / Black gram –  6 tsp.
  • Red Chilli – 8 to 10 nos.
  • Tamarind a large gooseberry size torn in to pieces.
  • Salt to taste.
  • Jaggery a small pebble size.
  • Asafoetida / Hing -1 /2 tsp.

Preparation

Step1

Heat a pan with 3 tea spoons of oil and roast the dal, coriander seeds and red chilli till the dal becomes golden brown.

Step2

Add tamarind to the mixture and stir for few seconds, after that Transfer it to a plate.

Step3

In the same pan put the grated  coconut and dry roast patiently in medium flame till they become golden brown.

Step4

Once everything gets cooled down, put all the ingredients in a blender jar with salt and Jaggery together, powder it coarsely. The divine flavored chutney powder is ready which can be used for nearly a week even if it is not refrigerated.
